The Pietrain breed is so called after the village in Belgium where it has been raised since 1920. The modern Pietrain has particular genetic characteristics. It is claimed to be the only pig producing fat-free meat and it is noted for its enlarged muscular mass on the shoulders, back and hams. It is of medium size, short legged, white in colour with black spots that are not deeply pigmented but have a ring of white hair around the spots.
