Now a long-standing breed in Britain, the Landrace was imported in 1949.
Its potential was soon recognised - fast growing with a long, lean carcass making it a popular choice for the commercial pig farmer.
These pigs were fundamental in creating the modern hybrid sow, from where most of our pork and bacon is produced today.
